Dear Community Member,
I have been recently approached from the ACTFL President – Desa Dawson, and I am very excited to let you know about two recent developments that will positively impact the Bulgarian language education.
First is the release of a report from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, America’s Languages: Investing in Language Education for the 21st Century. This national report, commissioned by Congress, sets forth recommendations for building the US nation’s language capacity to provide language learning opportunities for all students. I want to let you know that the Bulgarian Cultural Club in Seattle/ Bulgarian School of Seattle is already working to implement these recommendations in a comprehensive and cohesive way.
To provide even more momentum for the release of this national report, the Bulgarian School of Seattle will keep working cooperatively with the Superintendent Board of Educators and will follow the ACTFL’s Lead with Languages national public awareness campaign. This national advocacy campaign is aimed at highlighting the growing importance of developing language proficiency and the increasingly strong link to career opportunities. It is a movement to create a new generation of Americans competent in other languages and cultures.
Stay tuned for more information in the coming months regarding the implementation of the report’s recommendations with the Bulgarian Language through the Bulgarian Cultural Club/ Bulgarian School of Seattle.
